Former Drug Addict Shares Success Story

On November 6, 2020 Tina Mensching, completed a 9 month residential treatment program, at The Golden Rule, Inc. located at 766 Parks Road, Mauk, GA 31058.

The Golden Rule, Inc., is a long-term, residential treatment center for women who suffer from alcohol and/or other drug abuse/addiction. Located on 30 acres in rural western Taylor County, Georgia, our spiritual program is based on the twelve steps of alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous. Through love, growth and understanding one's self, these women become changed individuals.

Today Tina Mensching works as a Program Assistance at the Golden Rule, Inc. Tina attends meetings regularly and works with other teens and adults. "I'm 30 years old, I've got a whole life in recovery ahead of me!" On Tina's spare time she enjoys spending time with her 9 month old nephew, Waylon Mensching. Tina has been clean and sober since February 2020.

Tina was about 16 years old when she started to use drugs. Taking a bunch of pills, smoking weed, and drinking a lot. The pills were the main thing. Tina struggled with depression. "When I caught my reflection the mirror and nearly jumped out of my skin." "My eyes were sunken in, I was black and blue,...I didn't recognize myself." "I literally thought it was someone else in the bathroom with me, that's how bad it was, and I was terrified, I thought it was a monster." "I realize now that I hadn't looked myself in the eyes ever since I'd started getting high." "I finally got on my knees and prayed." "I don't think I actually said anything, and if I did I don't remember it." "I got this overwhelming sense that even though my friends and my family could all give up on me...God wouldn't." "So I wasn't going to give up on myself."

        Words from Tina Mensching...

I want to say my journey began when I was arrested on February 7, 2020...unlike the first time when I was in the Marion County Jail for only a few hours, this time I was there for 12 long days...I want to say thank you Sheriff Derrell Neal, because he knew I could do better, so even though I had a bond he kept talking to me about getting into a recovery program instead of going back to the streets, I wanted to go somewhere to get help... so within them 12 long days... the more clear my head got I started realizing what I was doing and it wasn't ok and how it was affecting me, my family and everyone around me. I could have seriously hurt someone if not worse... so a big thank you to Sheriff Derrell Neal. Also while I was in Marion County Jail, there was a lady who came to minister to the women at the Jail, her name is Libby Wells...She had a very big impact on me and gave me courage and strength to get through those 12 days. I still keep in contact with Mrs. Libby to this day. I am very thankful I met Mrs. Libby in my journey...I wasn't a religious person, but that moment was my first experience of spirituality. "I was so happy to see her because for the first time I felt like I actually had a chance. I realized I'm an alcoholic and a drug addict!" After 12 long days at the Marion County Jail, I was accepted into a 9 month program called the Golden Rule, Inc., where I met Ms. Linda Henry and Ms. Harriet Felts. I am so grateful for those two ladies, they taught me so much within those 9 months, and helped me learn a new way of life..."I would get so angry at them, "why do you even care!? I don't understand why you're even bothering me!" but they didn't give on me." I want to thank my parents, Jeffrey and Cheryl Mensching and my brother Jeffrey Mensching Jr., for never giving up on me and always being there for me no matter what. One of my biggest motivation, my 9 month old nephew, Waylon Mensching. If I would have continued living the life I was living, I would have never gotten a chance to be a part of his life. I will forever be grateful and thankful to my support system, throughout my life changing journey, whom will always have a special place in my heart.

The Golden Rule Inc., is a ministry which offers a structured curriculum to help a new women evolve from the old one within. For this to happen, change must occur. A woman look deep inside herself with the guidance of trained counselors and her Higher Power in order for her to know the changes required. Our counselors help the client reach the desired changes and incorporate them into her new way of life. Our resident to counselor ration is 7:1 allowing ample time for our counselors and the women and their families to get to know each other by more than just a name. Individual, group and family counseling is offered as a part of our program. We also use the twelve steps of Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous and attend NA and AA meetings.

         New Scam Alert

Our office has received several calls in the past few months about scam calls. I am advising all citizens to be very vigilant about scams. We have been receiving calls in reference to a young man calling local residents asking for donations to help purchase his medication, We have had calls from the government with warrants for arrest, We have had calls from the IRS to make a payment on a over due account, We have had calls from the Social Security Office. The number might be restricted or it maybe a local number they are calling from trying to get you to answer the phone. These calls are made from an App. on a smart phone. Please do not answer the call or do not call the number back verifying any personal information. The IRS and the Social Security Office will never call you, they will always contact you by mail. Please be careful.

Please do not give out any personal information over the phone, such as your bank information, social security number, emails, or debit / credit card information. These scammers are targeting anyone they think they can lure in, especially the elderly. If you have elderly parents please check their banking information on a regular basis, to make sure they don't have any suspicious withdrawals taken from the account. You can also speak with the financial institution about adding a fraud alert on their account. This will alert you of any unauthorized charges.

Scammers are always looking for ways to con you out of your hard earned money. Please be aware of your financial transactions. Please do not allow people to come to your home, to sell or demonstrate any products.

In the past few months scammers have definitely been on the rise during this time of year. Again, I ask you to just be mindful of the information you give out. Keep an eye on your banking statements, keep doors on your vehicles locked and personal items out of view. Report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

        Thank you

        Sheriff Derrell Neal

        Law Enforcement Officer's Prayer

        O Almighty God,

Whose great power and eternal wisdom embrace the universe. Watch over all the police officers and law enforcement officers. Protect them from harm in the performance of their duty to stop crime, robberies, riots and violence. We pray, help them keep our streets and homes safe day and night. We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Grant them your mending strength and courage in their daily assignments. Dear God, protect these brave men and women and grant them your almighty protection. Unite them safely with their families after duty ends. For these men and women truly walk the “Thin Blue Line.”

        Amen.
